Course Descriptions

RYA DINGHY SAILING COURSES

Dinghy Level 1

Start Sailing is an introduction to the sport of sailing. It covers everything you need to know to get you afloat under supervision.

Dinghy Level 2

Basic Skills. This course lays out the foundations of sailing to you. By the end of it you'll be a competent light wind sailor. This and the level one course are run together as a package.

Dinghy Level 3

A four day package designed to improve on the skills learnt on the level two course. On water coaching in double handed boats with a chance to sample some of the more advance modules, such as trapezing and spinnakers.

Dinghy Sailors Improving Clinic

Four days of on water coaching whether it’s the thrills and spills of the multi hull or nailing your starts, this is the package for you. Candidates must be RYA level two or above.

Dinghy Day Sailing

Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising.

Dinghy Sailing with Spinnakers

Everything you need to know about sailing with a spinnaker whether conventional or asymmetric.

Dinghy Instructor

Once you qualify as an instructor you are able to teach adults and children, beginners and improvers. Must be RYA Powerboat level 2 and hold a valid RYA First aid certificate. Pre selection also required.

RYA POWER BOAT COURSES

Powerboat Level 2

The RYA National Powerboat Certificate, this course is designed to teach novices with no previous experience the skills required to operate a Powerboat in tidal waters.

RYA Safety Boat

The Safety Boat qualification teaches those who use powerboats to provide support and safety cover for other watersports such as dinghy sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.

Intermediate Powerboating

Candidates should be competent to the standard of the National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 with knowledge of navigation and chart work. This new RYA course will provide further on water experience in powerboat handling, electronic navigation and passage planning.

Advanced Powerboating

The RYA Advanced Powerboat Course is the pinnacle of the RYA Powerboating scheme. The course is for experienced powerboat operators only. The course concentrates on developing handling skills to a very high standard. Candidates should have experience in traditional and electronic navigation. Candidates will be introduced to high-speed navigation at nigh during this course. It is a pre request that you hold RYA First Aid and SRC VHF certificates.

Powerboat Instructor

Successful candidates can teach Powerboating up to Level 2. Must be RYA Powerboat Level 2 with two years powerboat operating experience and hold a valid RYA First Aid certificate. Pre Selection Required.

BKSA KITE SURFING COURSES

BKSA Level 1 / Level 2

A five day course giving you all the knowledge you need to get started safely in this adrenalin fuelled sport. Starting with smaller training kites then moving onto the real thing. Body dragging and an introduction to the board before you’re up and riding on your own.

BKSA Improvers Clinic

Five days of on water coaching giving you the opportunity to move on to more advanced riding techniques. Candidates must be BKSA level two qualified.

RYA SHOREBASED COURSES

RYA Radio / Short Range Certificate (SRC) Course

This is a one-day course which covers the use of Marine VHF radio. It includes Routine Distress and Urgency procedures, Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). On completion of the written examination, the Short Range Certificate/Licence to Operate is awarded by the RYA. In addition to the course fee, there is a £25.00 Licence fee payable to the RYA.

One-Day First Aid Course

One day First Aid course designed for small boat users, first aid and resuscitation techniques for Sailors, including knowledge of the treatment for hypothermia.

Diesel Engine Maintainers Course

The aim of this course is to give an awareness of the main systems of the diesel engine and the ability to take simple actions to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea, and rectify defects which do not require workshop support.

Two Day Navigation and Safety

A two day course aimed at a wide audience, including anyone new to Sailing, Powerboating and diving. The perfect stepping stone to the more in-depth Day skipper Theory, Intermediate Powerboating or start Yachting qualification.

RYA WINDSURFING COURSES

Start Windsurfing

This will take you from complete beginner, teaching you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment; enabling you to sail to where you want to go and sail back to where you started from.

Windsurfing Improvers Clinic

Four days of on water coaching tailor made for you. Introducing you to move advanced kit and honing your skills.

Windsurfing Intermediate

After Start Windsurfing, fine tune your basic skills to make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. Learn new techniques such as the beachstart and be introduced to planing. This is where harness and footstrap techniques, combined with improved stance will get the board planing and give you the exhilaration of speed. Also faster tacking and more dynamic gybes.

Advanced Windsurfing

Carve gybes waterstarts and advanced planning techniques broken down and simplified by the Fastfwd coaching formula
