Army Dinghy Sailing - Lagos Trophy Results 2014

16-17 October 2014

Lagos Trophy winners Royal Signals

The Royal Signals - Winners Lagos Trophy 2014

The Lagos Trophy which is the annual Inter Corps/Regimental 3 Boat Team Racing Regatta was hosted at AISTC(S) organised by the ASA Regional Coach.

The week started with some on water team training organised by the individual Corps and Regiments. There was an evening session on the Wednesday evening hosted in ASA TISC lounge on rules by an umpire, a light buffet and bar was kindly provided by ASA TISC.

The competition itself was on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th October.

The following teams attended the event:

AGC | REME | RA | R SIGS

Day 1:
Started with very light winds, not enough to even go afloat but the wind filled by mid morning so a box course was laid and the teams completed 3 round robins with everyone competing against each other 3 times.  The wind stayed steady until the last couple of race so we wrapped it up and went to the bar and buffet again supplied by Julie and Deano from ASA TISC.

Day 2:
Prefect conditions on Day 2, F2-3 wind, teams eager to go, so again 1 more round robin was sailed then we went into the semi finals and finals, with 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 being sailed to get a final result. There were some close fought, competitive races best out of three, and the final showed some great team racing between the R SIGS and the RA. The on water Umpires, David and Steve really had to work hard to get into a position where they could deliver the correct calls for the incidents.

With the racing finishing at 1530 hours, we cleared the race rack, de rigged the boats and enjoyed hot dogs again supplied by Julie and went into the prize-giving.

The final results of a competitive, well-fought competition:

4th place       -           AGC
3rd place       -           REME
2nd place      -           RA
Winners 2014          R SIGNALS

The event was one of the best sailed over the past few years, great team racing, great conditions and the boats were in good shape, what was gratifying is almost half the teams were new to team racing and half were experienced helms, so a new wave of young team racers are coming along, thank you all the teams for providing some good, controlled, even tempered team racing.

Thanks to the AISTC(S) Team for providing all the boats, accommodation, safety, to ASA TISC Committee for allowing us the bar and to Julie and Deano for providing the buffet, great food thank you. Also thanks to the Umpires David and Steve for umpiring some close fought racing.
