Ventosa Army Dinghy tour

EXERCISE VENTOSA SAIL
Lake Garda - 27 Sep to 03 Oct 14

The Army Dinghy discipline organised an overseas tour to Lake Garda with the aims of improving asymmetric spinnaker skills, develop racing techniques in a high wind venue and to develop new talent into the Army Team.

Lake Garda for those sailors who have been will know it is the best sailing venue in the World, in the morning a light breeze fills from the North and stops at lunch time, just enough time to grab a light lunch, because out of the south comes the afternoon breeze which usually blow dogs off leads, warm, strong, constant wind channeled by the cliffs on either side of the lake, people who have been there will probably have goose-bumps just reading this.

There is a newly opened SailLaser Centre at Campione on the Western shore of Lake Garda and the ASA Coach recced this earlier in the year when the Italian Olympic Team were training at the venue. A great deal was struck between the ASA and SailLaser so a tour was requested and agreed through the ASCB.

The dates were decided, suitable candidates were identified and invited and all the necessary Dip Clear, funding, accommodation, costs etc. were organised.  The Army Sports Lottery and the Army Sailing Association were the main providers of funding and without their support, the tour would have been cost prohibitive to the individuals attending, the ASA Regional Coach thanks them for their support and generosity.
