For further details please contact Major Heidi MacLeod on 94631 2388 (Civ 02074 142388), or DII (LONDIST-SPSSO2@mod.uk).

Exercise Gallipoli 15 is a major Army Adventurous Sail Training Exercise which will take place from 8 Feb to 19 Jul 15.  The expedition is open to all Regular and Reserve Army personnel and its purpose is to develop the rigour, robustness and leadership which military personnel require on operations, and to commemorate this key First World War campaign in its centenary year.  The expedition involves 11 legs, each of two weeks with ports of call including La Corunna, Vilamoura, Sardinia, Corsica, Malta, Thessilonika, and Istanbul.  Legs on the expedition have each been sponsored by one of the Arms and Services Yacht Clubs or Sailing Associations.  Gallipoli has been endorsed by Comd FDT as a Major Army AT project.

Application Form

The ASA are responsible for the planning and management of this expedition, with the project officer responsible for production of the Joint Services AT Application (JSATFA) and obtaining all Diplomatic Clearances.  Leg sponsors are responsible for crewing and underwriting the costs of each of their legs.

Crew Selection
Volunteers are now needed!  Novice sailors are encouraged to apply to take part in the expedition alongside sailors who already have qualifications.  The dates for each leg, together with the expected personal contributions are in the table below.  Application forms should be sent to the leg sponsors who are identified in the DIN, along with a deposit for £150.

Finance
Central funding for Ex Gallipoli 15 has been secured from the Adventurous Training Group (Army) and additional funds are expected from the Berlin Infantry Brigade Memorial Trust Fund and the Army Sports Lottery.  To further offset personal contributions, leg sponsors are expected to apply to their Regimental / Corps central funds and individuals should apply to their own unit’s PRI fund.  The project officer will apply centrally for CILOR for the complete expedition.

Skipper / Mate Training
The project officer is running a programme for potential skipper and mate development with support from the JSASTC.  If you are interested in joining the afterguard for this expedition and have not already been identified, you should email the project officer directly.

Summary
Exercise Gallipoli 15 is a unique opportunity to take part in an adventurous training expedition and commemorate the Gallipoli landings as well as the less well known Allied campaigns of the Macedonian front.  The expedition will be high profile with significant media interest as it will be one of the principal British commemorative events marking this costly and bloody campaign.
