INTER SERVICE WINDSURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS - RACE INSTRUCTION 

INTRODUCTION

1.         The postponed 2014 Inter Services Windsurfing Championships will be held off Inn on the Beach, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 0AS, 22/23 April 2015.

AUTHORITY

2.         The event will be organised by the ASA (W) Race Committee as per the ASA (W) Events Calendar 2015.

ELIGIBILITY

3.         The event is open to all members of the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces; MOD dependants may take part by right as paying guests, but not be eligible for prizes. The ASA (W) Race Committee may invite other guests as appropriate.

RULES

4.         Racing Rules as per ISAF Windsurfing Competition Rules 2013 unless stated in this instruction. A copy of the ISAF rules will be held by the ASA (W) Race Committee.

REGISTRATION

5.         Registration will take place on Wednesday 22 April 2015 at 0900hrs.

CLASSES

6.         Open Class. The Open Class will be for boards up to 1m wide with sails up to 11m.

7.         Novice Class. The Novice Class will have no limitations on board size and a maximum of 7.5m sails.

INTER SERVICE COMPETITION

8.         Team Composition and Scoring. The Inter Service competition will be between 6 nominated sailors from each Service. The Service with the least points will win. In the event of Novices being in the Service team their results will come below any Open Class sailor providing the Open class sailor completed all races less discards. In the event of a tie in points the least amount of points gained in the last race will determine the winners. There will be 1 discard after 4 races, 2 after 7, 3 after 11 and 4 after 16.

9.         Course Layout.   The Race officer will brief the course laid at the race briefs. There will be only one course laid that both Open and Novices will sail around. The number of laps for each fleet will be briefed at the race brief.

SUPPORT

10.       The Army will provide the committee boat and 1 safety boat with crews. The other Services are requested to provide 1 safety boat each with crew.

PRIZES

11.       The following prizes will be awarded:

  • Inter Service Team Champions.
  • Inter Service Individual Champion.
  • Inter Service Novice Champion.
  • First guest.

WINDSTRENGTHS

12.       The minimum wind strength for racing is 10 knots.

ENTRY FEES

13.       There will be an entry fee of £20 payable on registration that will open at 0900 22 April 2015.

ACCOMMODATION

14.       There is overnight accommodation at the Army Inshore Sail Training Centre on Thorney Island for £5 per night; contact the undersigned to book.

15.       The nearest medical cover/hospital is Queen Alexander Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Corsham, Portsmouth, PO6 3LY, Tel 02392286000.

TRAVEL CLAIMS

16.       Army personnel can claim MMA as per reference ASA /WS/002 Dated 19 Mar 14 which can be found on ASA (W) Website. Other Services claim under their own Service direction.
