ARMY INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 - 5JULY 2013 Race Instruction

INTRODUCTION

The Army Individual and Team Windsurfing Championships will be held off The Inn on the Beach, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 0AS 1 - 5 July 13.

AUTHORITY

The event will be organised by the ASA (W) Race Committee as per the ASA (W) Events Calendar 2013.

ELIGIBILITY

The event is open to all members of the Armed Forces, Reserve Forces and MOD dependants may take part by right as paying guests, but not be eligible for prizes. The ASA (W) Race Committee may invite other guest as appropriate.

RULES

Racing Rules as per ISAF Windsurfing Competition Rules 2006 . A copy of which will be held by the ASA (W) Race Committee and also in conjunction with ASA (W) Notice of Race Instruction 2012.

REGISTRATION

Registration will take place on Monday and Wednesday of that week commencing at 0900hrs. Late entries can be entered on an ‘ad hoc’ basis through the Beachmaster. Charges will be proportionate to the days entered for late entries.

EVENTS

Inter Corps Series

The Inter Corps Series results will be a culmination of the week’s sailing scores for the 4 top sailors of each Corps. Positions will be extracted from the overall results. No prior team nomination is required.

Army Team Event

The bespoke Army Team event will scored using the top 4 results of the top 6 sailors of each Corps from the course racing results. If no course racing takes place results will be extracted from the slalom racing results. No prior team nomination is required.

Army Individual Championships

This event will be conducted over the period of 1 - 5 July 2013 and dictated by prevailing conditions.

FLEETS FOR ARMY INDIVIDUAL

There will be 4 main fleets within the competition:

a. Freerace 1. The aim of the fleet is to introduce newcomers to competitive windsurfing, who are not yet using their harness or planing. The equipment restriction is as follows:

i. Boards must have a daggerboard and the maximum sail size is 6.5m.

b. Freerace 2. Sailors in this class will be using a harness but not fully planning. The aim of this fleet is to coach and develop sailors for them to progress to Freerace 3. Courses will be laid across the wind. There are no equipment restrictions.

c. Freerace 3. Sailors in this class will be planning but have never raced a Formula board. The aim of this fleet is to coach and develop the sailors to join the Freerace 4 fleet and sail Formula boards. Courses will be laid across the wind.

d. Freerace 4. Sailors in this class will have no restrictions on the equipment they sail or the course that are set for them.

PRIZES AND SCORING

There will be prizes for all fleets and overall winner prizes. Results will be weighted so that the sailors’ overall finishing places will be from Freerace 1 followed by Freerace 2, 3 and 4 if they get a result for every race.

WINDSTRENGTHS

The minimum wind strength for racing is 10 knots less the Freerace fleet that will be at the discretion of the Race Officer.

ENTRY FEES

There will be an entry fee of £10 for all competitors.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES

There is no overnight accommodation or parking available at the venue and sailors must make their own arrangements, nearest military camp for accommodation and rationing is Baker Barracks RA, Thorney Island. Parking will have to be paid at local meter and claimed back through JPA.

MEDICAL COVER

The nearest medical cover/hospital is Queen Alexander Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Corsham, Portsmouth, PO6 3LY, Tel 02392286000.

SOCIAL EVENT

It is the intention to have an AGM and social evening on Thursday 4 July 13.

ARMY SAILING ASSOCIATION

All participating Army sailors must be ASA members. Applications are available for non-members at a cost of £10.
